Manuel Uribe, a man from Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico, age 44 is the former record holder for “The Heaviest Man in the World” given by the World Guinness Book of Record.
in 2006, his body is reaching a peak of his body weight, 597 kg / 1,316 lbs, and because of this weight of him, he was unable to walk since 2001, and bed-ridden. p.s : i was wondering,, what is that bed made of ?? its amazing how it could stand 597 kg of weight,,, bravo bravo !!
and his goal is to be able to walk again, he said in the interview.
Manuel Uribe is beyond the kind of overweight that comes from fast food and lack of exercise. Doctors call it morbid obesity.
According to the National Institutes of Health, obesity means weighing 20 percent or more than your ideal body weight, and it’s a health risk. Morbid obesity is altogether different. Sometimes called “clinically severe obesity,” it means you’re 100 pounds or more over ideal body weight, with a body mass index of 40 or higher.
Uribe doesn’t gain weight like the rest of us. Brain chemistry, genetic mutation, addiction, psychological pain — or an unhappy combination of all of them — makes morbid obesity one of the biggest mysteries of medicine.
Due to this condition, an operation / surgery is something common, or else thing could gone far more worse.
His first surgery is back to 1996 ( Age 31 ) he was undego a Tummy tuck surgery, sloughs off 88.9 kg (196 lb), reducing his weight to 160 kg (350 lb) from 248 kg (546 lb).
Then, condition is becoming worse after the surgery, in 1999 ( Age 34 ), his weight jumped to 502 kg (1,106 lb) in just three years.
And in year 2000, ( Age 35 ) his weight increased to 552 kg (1,218 lb), even though another tummy tuck removed 72 kg (158 lb) of his body weight.
Again, the year 2001, he undergo another surgery to remove 180 lbs of growth tissue from his thighs and pelvic areas.
But making things worse, the surgery was proved to be unsuccessful and Manuel feared that he would not be able to walk again. In addition to his weight problems, his wife of 14 years left him. He continued to over-eat and became depressed and at one point contemplated suicide.
But things began to change after he was noticed by a local journalist, Jose Luis Garcia, who interviewed him and told his story to the world.
and due to this exposed, in January 2006, he was pronounced to be "The World's Heaviest Man" with a weight of 597 kg / 1,316 lbs.
In the interview Manuel asked for someone to help him lose weight. Doctors and dietitians visited him. After much consultation Manuel decided to go on a diet, the Zone diet, rather than undergo more surgery which came with significant risks to his health.
and it was proved to be successful, he managed to reduced his 597 kg (1,316 lb) to 552 kg (1218 lb), due to a diet.
Manuel not only started losing weight on his new diet but he also found love again. He fell in love with Claudia Soli, a wife to his deceased best friend.
And thanks to that, he found another reason for him to be motivated, and gain his confidence back, and good thing that, his love is not one sided.
She loves him back, the way he deserved to be loved.
THATS WHAT WE CALL LOVE BABY !!!!
Fortunately, the love is not based on material or other trivial things, it is a real love.
Just in two years, he managed to loss a huge sum of his body weight thanks to the support of the girlfriend.
2007: Age 42: Loses 181 kg (400 lb). Weight plummets down to 381 kg (840 lb).
2008: Age 43: Lost a little less than 12 kg (26 lb), now weighing around 369 kg (814 lb).
Could you imagine ?? Losing a weight from 597 kg to 369 kg !!!!
And thanks to the power of love, they were married in Oktober 26, 2008
Even though Manuel is still not able to walk, he has plans to be mobile. He is now having a 1989 Chevrolet Astrovan outfitted specially for him. The minivan is being converted into an open-air, flatbed pickup. Manuel says he will put a bed on the back of the van to drive around town, with his new wife at the wheel.
With his new found lease on life, Manuel now wants to open an auto parts store. He is also making plans to visit the beach soon with his wife. He plans to continue with his diet and exercise and maybe someday he will be able to walk again.
